Just because a thought pops into our head does not mean it is true or factual. Emotions can create thoughts that skew our perspective and then our brains tend to ignore or discount information that doesn’t support how we feel.

We can intentionally notice and shift our perspective, which may then soften our reaction. A few ways to do this include translating judgments into emotions, giving benefit of the doubt, challenging negative thoughts, and considering the positives.
