Visualization is another powerful tool to release emotions or things that are holding you back. Eventually, with practice, it only takes a minute and can be done anywhere, anytime.
It requires some imagination, so the first few times you do it, find a space where you can concentrate.
How to “release the balloon”:
- Close your eyes and think of something specific you’d like to release:
- A feeling
- A thought
- A situation
- A belief about yourself, someone else, the world, or the future
- Imagine that thing on a balloon
- In your mind, cut or untie the balloon and watch it float away
- Repeat for as many balloons as you need

Sometimes, after one thing is released, other layers of feelings and thoughts and beliefs emerge. In the same visualization session, continue letting go of new balloons until most or all of the layers are released.
For example, Jamie releases a belief that’s holding them back:

Release the Balloon audio (8.5 minutes)
“I want to release the belief, “It’s weak to show emotion.” I imagine a balloon with those words on it. I cut the thick string with a pair of scissors and watch it float away. Now that it’s gone, I notice that I feel a little lighter.”
