Kindness Story #4: Kittens

On World Kindness Day 2019, we reached out to the Envision Kindness community and asked them to share stories of kindness, joy, and love. Today, we share Subhash’s story. Subhash tells the story of two beautiful kittens, found on the streets in India. Thank you Subhash for sharing your story with the community!

One day when I was coming home by a wayside lane not much in use, I heard a weak voice of ‘meow, meow,’ which,as an animal lover, immediately touched my heart. I looked in that direction and my heart sank. There were two very lovely kittens, hardly one month old and not even able to walk freely. One was black dotted white and the other was black striped. I looked around to try and find their mother, but in vain.

Knowing these kittens were orphans I lifted them carefully and kept them close to my heart. Surprisingly both of them felt very comfortable and stopped their crying.  I took both to my home, cleaned them with warm water, and fed them a few drops of milk with a dropper. Then, I placed them in a box with warm cloth.

I watched over them with great satisfaction as they fell deep asleep. I also named them:  Mintu for the white and Kalu for the black. I promised to make every effort to feed them properly and to bring them up nicely. I knew how to care for them, as I always had a cat in my home since childhood, sometimes even five of them at all ages.

Sadly, at around two months old, Kalu stopped drinking milk. I took him to a vet where he had treatment which lasted for fifteen days, but unfortunately I lost him. This was a great sorrow for me. But time is the remedy for any sorrow. Despite this loss, Mintu nicely adjusted to my care and grew up very well. Now, after more than four years, she is a very beautiful, loving member of our family.

Kindness has a wide meaning. I see kindness when humans and animals come together, seeing each other as other living beings. Mintu’s love towards me is the treasure of my life. We talk to each other, she sleeps on my shoulder putting her leg around my neck with a purr as if saying ‘I LOVE YOU’.

Kindness is not restricted for humans only but it should reach out to other living beings also, which will make this world full of happiness.

Photo of the Week #62: “Praying for Each Other”

“This photo is from 1st of April, 2014 in Burauen, Leyte, Philippines. I was one of the official photographers of the relief operation for the people affected by Typhoon Haiyan, known as Super Typhoon Yolanda in the Philippines. I caught these two young boys genuinely praying for each other. I believe this photo depicts so much of kindness because when you pray for each other you’re communicating that you really care and love this person you are praying for, that you’re entrusting this person to our God. It is more than caring and loving for one another allowing God to intervene through your lives. I believe this is the greatest thing you can touch a person’s heart, through prayer (edited for length).”

Kindness Story #3: A Transformation

On World Kindness Day 2019, we reached out to the Envision Kindness community and asked them to share stories of kindness, joy, and love. Today, we share Maribeth’s story. Maribeth’s family home was ruined by an earthquake in the Philippines. Her finance helped to rebuild it. Thank you Maribeth for sharing your story with the community!

I grew up with my family in the Philippines, and we grew up in poverty for most of our lives. But despite this, as a family, we were always very close. Especially me and my grandma. She has been such a source of inspiration for me in my life.

My hometown was hit by a devastating earthquake, and our house was ruined. Thankfully, my kind fiance (who is from the USA!) came back to the Philippines and helped to remodel our house to be a first world home. It was an amazing transformation and I am so happy to know my family has a safe and beautiful place to live.

I still can’t believe it.  My family is so happy. We blessed the house on January 16, 2020 and had many neighbors and guests stop by to see it.

I am going to America on a fiance visa in April and we will marry in June. I am so grateful for his kindness to my family. Here are some photos of our house before and after the remodel. We have lived in utter poverty our whole lives, so this is pretty special. There are no words to describe it.

Photo of the week #60: “Big Heart Of A Small Man”

This is a photo I took in Novi Sad, Serbia, where I live.  This sight absolutely blew me away. A young boy was approaching the street player and gave him some money. I see adult people sometimes giving donations, I myself do it occasionally, bur children? Not really that often. I especially love the look on the boy’s face that he is giving to the player. This is a simple proof that kindness, humility and tolerance know no age, race, nation, or status. That makes me hopeful and assured that by small acts of kindness every day we can make ourselves happier and meaningful in ours and other people’s lives. I’m grateful that I took a photo like this to remind me of true life values. I’m going to just finish off with a quote from Jill Johnson: “Without the kindness of strangers, where would we be?”
